Exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit bank 1 sensor 3

OBD-II trouble code P247A is associated with the exhaust gas temperature out of range bank 1 sensor 3 circuit. When the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects improper signals within the exhaust gas temperature circuit code P247A will be set and the check engine light will be illuminated. Refer to a vehicle specific resource to determine which is the appropriate bank and sensor location for your particular year / make / model / engine combination.

Many late-model vehicles are replacing the traditional bank 1 sensor for an air-fuel sensor (which is just another name for a wide-band oxygen sensor) to monitor the fuel mixture. The operating range of wide-band O2 sensors allows for faster reaction time when correcting fuel trim and keeps the engine's operating range as close to stoichiometry ...
The Powertrain Control Module ( PCM) continuously monitors the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) for proper circuit continuity and out of range high values. The EGTS is located in front of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and/or in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The EGTS detects exhaust gas temperature and converts it into a voltage and feeds back to the PCM with the voltage signal in order to control engine conditions to effectively reduce emissions.

I'll post images of the CEL message and my current sensor readings while the CEL is active and the truck is warming up to operating temp. You'll be able to see that EGT Bank 1, Sensor 3 value starts to drop as the truck warms up. The -40 value seems to indicate an open circuit or absence of the sensor as you can see for EGT Bank 1, Sensor 4.
Flashing coil light on, scanned using VCDS and comes up with codes 4911 & 5257 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor; B1 S3 - P242A 00 [036] - Malfunction. I cleared faults and ran for a while then came back. First scan shows sensor 3 (pre DPF) as 1000∞C, (which I think is open circuit). I cleared the codes, started the engine and did a live ...

This sensor is found in most late gas or diesel model engines. Thus, when this code is set, that means a general malfunction within the EGR temperature sensor circuit on bank 1, sensor #1 has been detected by the PCM (powertrain control module, also known as ECM or engine control module in other vehicle makes). The Bank #1 refers to the side of ...
Jul 01, 2006 · The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and intake air temperature sensors are both thermistors. A thermistor is a type of variable resistance sensor. As the sensor is exposed to heat, its internal resistance lowers. As the heat exposure rises, the resistance lowers even more. In Figure 4, the PID circuitry is monitoring the voltage drop ...
A P0142 code refers to the Bank 1 O2, 3 sensor or the 3rd downstream (post-cat) O2 sensor on Bank 1, it is a four wire sensor. The PCM supplies a ground circuit and a reference voltage circuit of about 0.5 volts.
